The other interesting thing about this graphic is the sheer number of such named water bodies in the east compared to the west. Why isn’t the slough use MORE. for example? What cultural change happend such that names of small flowing water bodies seems to have lost it’s uniqueness, or perhaps even it’s importance. Also the data source I have additional complaints about it, so I am dubious (Like why can’t I find the name of the flowing water body near my house? Where is it? The sign near it says creek, but it doesn’t appear in the hydrology data at all…)
